Ashamed of Jesus?

Lord, Jesus, shall it ever be,
A mortal man ashamed of Thee?
Ashamed of Thee whom angels praise,
Whose glories shine through endless days?

Ashamed of Jesus? Sooner far
Let evening blush to own a star!
He sheds His beams of love divine
Into this darkened soul of mine.

Ashamed of Jesus? Just as soon
Let midnight be ashamed of noon.
'Tis midnight with my soul till He,
Bright Morning Star, bids darkness flee.

Ashamed of Jesus? That dear Friend
On Whom my hopes of heav'n depend.
No, when I blush be this my shame,
That I have not proclaimed His Name.

Ashamed of Jesus? Yes, I may
When I've no guilt to wash away,
No tears to wipe, no grace to crave,
No fears to quell, no soul to save! No soul to save!

Till then, nor is my boasting vain,
Till then I boast a Savior slain!
But, oh! May this my glory be,
That He is not ashamed of me!

  1. Wow, that is beautiful. Did you write it? It is sad how I can be ashamed of the Name of Jesus, yet He has died for me, baring upon Himself all the shame, guilt, and sin. May we all learn to suffer with Christ, knowing that our reward is Him, and yes, he is not ashamed of us. :)
    Thanks Grace!
    God bless.

  2. You are welcome! I am glad it was an encouragment. No, I didn't write it, but it really is beautiful.:-) Our music pastor sang it a few Sunday's ago. I was sad too when I heard it. I feel myself getting comfortable with the world and begin to feel ashamed to talk about Him. Ahh! May that be true of me. May I learn to suffer with Him... Oh for the grace to share (love, obey) Him more! :-)
